Thousands of people filled the Washington, DC convention center on January 6, 2007 for the Inaugural Ball in honor of Mayor Fenty. This event was rescheduled from the original date: Janurary 2, 2007 because of President Ford's funeral services.

At the posting of this article, the Richmond Timesdispatch reports that Jim Webb is clinging to a lead of less than 8,000 votes over Sen. George Allen but expects to maintain his winning margin.

I spoke to a young lady on yesterday, just minutes after voting and she said that she did not vote.

The young lady said she is now 21 years old and have never voted.

Soldiers Welcomed Home: 80th Institutional Training Division from Iraq

Richmond, VA: Approximately 75 soldiers of the 80th Institutional Training Division from the Richmond-area were honored yesterday at a Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen Ceremony held outside at the Virginia War Memorial.

The ceremony lasted for two-hours. Family, friends, veterans of the Richmond-based U.S. Army Reserve unit and dignitaries were on hand to share and witness this historical momement.

Maj. Gen. David L. Evans, the division's commanding general, told the soldiers "You are the true American heroes of this generation. Thank you for a job well done."

The ceremony recognized the sacrifices of the 115 soldiers of the division's headquarters company and other Richmond-area members of the 80th who went to Iraq, as well as a few who served in Afghanistan.

This year's event included a fashion show that featured: Del Carlos Production Models

Paulette Singleton - Saints In Praise Photography attended the North Carolina Fall Classic for the very first time. But this will not be the last time... this may very well become a standing yearly convention.

Paulette grew up on quartet music. At this convention it is very evident that quartet music is here to stay. Such a large following and lovers of quartet music attended the North Carolina Fall Gospel Classic from everywhere even as far as Richmond California.

Since their formation in 1994, Gospel trio Virtue have garnered GRAMMY, Stellar and Dove Award nominations and released 5 albums including a “greatest hits” compilation. Now, with the release of Testimony, the sister trio prepares to start a whole new chapter with producer and songwriter Fred (“Uncle Freddie”) Jerkins of DarkChild Gospel.

“We’ve never used the same producer for an entire project,” shares Karima (Trotter) Kibble. “So, this was a step of faith out of our comfort zones. But, the results speak for themselves. Freddie is an amazingly talented producer and we’re fortunate to have had the chance to work with him. This project represents Virtue at a whole new level.”

Testimony, which releases worldwide through Integrity Gospel and Sony-BMG in June, features 13 songs penned by Virtue, Jerkins and vocals producer LaShawn Daniels. The album combines the sisters’ recognized harmonies and worshipful-emotive vocal style with infections dance floor rhythms and some old school gospel influences. Their notable vocals segue from R&B to pop to contemporary Gospel while the songs themselves allow Virtue to mirror their life experience with vulnerability and depth.

Jerkins comments, “This project is not only the strongest of their career, it is also the album they were destined to make.”

While Virtue credits the Clark Sisters, Winans, Take 6, Richard Smallwood and others for influencing their musical flavor, it is their mom who is responsible for it all.

“We practically sang from the time we were born,” says Ebony. “Mom taught us old hymns and every night we would have worship. We have a lot of respect for our mom, especially now that we have kids and understand the sacrifice.”

Since their last CD release, two of the three sisters have had children. “Having kids has definitely impacted our ability to relate to our audience,” shares Karima. “We have a wide range of people who attend Virtue concerts and being married and having children allows us to communicate about new aspects of life.”

Virtue considers the task of encouraging young women crucial and uses the stage as a platform to teach women to expect greater things. “We want to show them that you don’t have to play by the rules of the world, but can set your own standards,” Heather explains. “The platform that we’ve been given allows us to communicate the freedom in Jesus Christ… the freedom to have fun, to worship, to be who you are, to dream and the freedom to be women who believe.”

RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine has designated May 14-20th, 2006, as Business Appreciation Week in the Commonwealth. Coordinated each year by the Virginia Department of Business Assistance, the week is dedicated to celebrating the contributions of Virginia businesses. This year’s theme, “Navigating Virginia’s Future,” acknowledges the determination of the state’s corporate citizens.

“Virginia businesses affect every aspect of our lives – from job growth and quality of life to our Commonwealth’s prosperity and positive business climate,” said Governor Kaine. “Their success plays a vital role in keeping Virginia moving forward.”

Governor Kaine officially acknowledged Virginia businesses today at the Annual Business Appreciation Week Governor’s Breakfast in Richmond. American Idol finalist "Elliott Yamin" comes home...

Richmond, VA - More than 4,000 people/fans gathered in Richmond downtown area to see Elliott Yamin.

People flooded the streets and stood on the roof tops of buildings to get a glimpse of the Richmond native - Elliott.

Mayor L. Douglas Wilder presented Yamin with a key to the city. Wilder said, "I've been living in this city for a whole lot of years, and I've never seen anything like it." Shortly thereafter, Yamin took the stage to sing the song entitled: "Home."

Tonex is being sued for over $1 Million

The 2006 Gospel Heritage Praise & Worship Conference was held for three full days, February 15th thru February 17th, 2006 at Reid Temple AME church in Glen Dale, MD 20769 (www.reidtemple.org).

Sheliah Belle (The Belle) of the "Belle Report and The Gospel Times" and Paulette Singleton (Photolady) of Saints In Praise Photography (http://www.saintsinpraise.com) both from Richmond, Virginia were in the house for this memorable event.

The Winans Musical Tribute: 7 Sons of Soul and Rev. Rance Allen

I think that most would agree that one of the memorable highlight performance for the evening was the musical tribute to the Winans by Rev. Rance Allen and background singers: Johnathan Nelson and Purpose. The song entitled "Uphold Me" on the Tomorrow album was the featured song. When Rance finished working he song by adding his own unique style the audience wanted more. The Winans, Marvin and Carvin could not sit down either. At that moment, Donnie McClurkin started sing the song as soon as he was given the mic. The audience rocked some more. Next, Donnie said "I know this is not on the program, but ..." Donnie ran of the stage into the audience and gave the mic to serveral guest artist so that they too could sing a portion of the song: Kurt Carr, Kelly Price, Tramain Hawkins, Witness, Ted ... Ted & Sherri, Karen Clark, Kim Burrell... and the mic was also given to Marvin Winans

Mother Ruby Summerville-Dickson, a pioneer of St. Louis Gospel Announcers and host of "Something Old, Something New" on WGNU, passed on Monday, November 21st 2005. Visitation is from 3-8pm on Sunday (Nov.27th) at Original Friendship Missionary Baptist Church (Oriole and Harney). The funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday at Leonard Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. King and Compton. A beloved friend and mentor, Mother Dickson will be missed.

Richmond's Queen of Gospel will record "Live"

This is the musical event that the City of Richmond has been waiting for! It has been over 10 years since their last release on Atlanta International Records, but in that time, Evangelist Maggie Ingram & the Ingramettes have continued to spread the gospel through song.

On Saturday, November 12, 2005, 6:00PM, at the Antioch Christian Center (335 E. Belt Blvd., Richmond,VA), the Ingramettes will record their first "live" Video/DVD and CD recording. It promises to be a very special event!

During that last 10 years, several of the group members have successfully worked on other projects, but they always come together for this special singing ministry.

Rev. Almeta Ingram-Miller, who is the oldest daughter of Evangelist Maggie Ingram, was praised by audiences and critics alike, as she graced the stages at the Barksdale Theatre and The Empire Theatre in Richmond in the role of "Mother Elsie Shaw" in Regina Taylor's production of "Crowns."

Rev. Michelle Kirven and her husband Rev. Tim Kirven are the founding Co-Pastors of Worship and Praise Deliverance Ministry in the southside of Richmond.

Evangelist Maggie Ingram, the matriarch of the family and of the group, continues her work in the church communities of Richmond and vicinities. She is still sought after as a preacher, Psalmist, and Hymnology clinician, as she seeks to preserve traditional Gospel music for the next generation to come. The musicians are all Ministers of Music at their respective churches.

Evangelist Maggie Ingram & The Ingramettes are nationally known television, stage, and recording artists; and as good as they are apart, nothing compares to their coming together. This is traditional gospel music at its best! The new recording promises some surprises, as some of the songs have been written with a contemporary flavor.

They have invited many of Richmond's brightest stars to share the evening with them. "Sis. Cora Harvey Armstrong", and "Bro. Lee Walker and Spirit" will begin the services. Guest musicians for the evening include keyboardist Min. Darryl Walker, and saxaphonist, Gerthell "Dale" Rogers, both of Richmond, and Val Alexander III of Greensboro,NC (The Gospel Keynotes of Tyler ,TX).

Tickets ($12.00 in advance/$15.00 at the door) go on sale September 26, 2005, at all the usual places in Richmond and Petersburg, as well all members of the participating groups.

Don't miss this blessed event as the City of Richmond and vicinities welcome fans from all over to the first "live" Video/DVD/CD recording of
"Evangelist Maggie Ingram & The Ingramettes".
